Venus, the Moon, Jupiter, Mars and most of all Saturn!
Our solar system neighbors.
This august 2018 is an exceptional month, Nature is giving us a unique opportunity to look at our solar system neighbors:
Venus will be up in the western sky after sunset, so bright that you don’t even have to wait until dusk, just look west at approximatly 30 degrees above the Sun, it looks like a bright star but in fact it is our sister planet in terms of its size. Venus is relatively near our Earth at the moment , “only” at 130 million kms, it will show as a 60% phase almost looking like a gibbous Moon, only a 1000 times smaller in the sky than the Moon and 400 times further away :
The Moon will show a beautiful phase with a multitude of impacts craters, gigantic mountains and deep cliffs, our Giant Telescope will show you the finest details of its surface better than any instrument you have ever been looking into:

Mars will almost be at its closest distance to Earth, now at a mere ” 55 million kms” , Mars contains a lot of iron and gives the planet a peculiar orange color unique in our solar system. Its apparent size will quadruple between mars and july 2018, end of july and beginning of august 2018 are the best months to observe it, hurry up or you’ll have to wait an other 30 months for this to happen again!
Jupiter, the Giant Planet of the Solar System will show fine details of its cyclonic (Red Spot),its dynamic atmosphere and a multitude of Moons when sky conditions are good:
And Planet Saturn will be at its best this july a few hours after sunset, when it rises from the western slopes of the Teide Volcano at our observing site, it is an amazing experience to see the rings and the entire planet “floating” in the sky, a surreal view:
